arabian | Delayed SYTCD thoughts

Brief recap of my thoughts of all eps before last night's:

- Loved Ricky sooooooooooooo much. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed that Cedric was picked over him. Wasn't in love with Jimmy, but really liked him and was pissed anew that Cedric was saved and Jimmy was not. Yes, he's great at what he does but she SHOULD not have been picked over Jimmy AND RICKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, really, really pissed over that.

Not a Lacey fan. She did great the first week, but didn't impress as much last week and it didn't help that I've been rewatching S2 eps and even as a non-major Benji fan, I can't help but compare the two and Benji just totally PWNS HER!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. On her own, she does nothing for me, and as Benji's sister, even less.

I love Dominic and Sabra from week two on and they are MY couple now. Love them, love them, love them. I've loved Hok (and Ricky) from day one, so I hope Hok sticks around for quite a while. Shawna blew me away with her solo last week. Faina so should have been kept over Jessi the week before. Arrrgggh.

And sorta-ot, I can't help but compare the ballroom dances to Apolo/Julianne's from DWtS (OMG!!!!!!!! Apolo's joining the DWTS tour for five shows!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't see any, but still ... AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and A/J's are just so superior in my opinion. I'm so frickin' biased it's not even funny!!!

Okay, last night's ...

- I really only enjoyed two routines. Dominic/Sabra. I adore Dominic and I think that Sabra dances like an absolute dream. Hok/Jaime. I don't have the problem with her that most do and thought their routine was really neat. Just lovely. I also love Wade Robson's choreography and him too (I have wonderful Justin Guarini-related memories of him.) Everyone else, but for the Pasha/Jessi drama underwhelmed me pretty completely. Ah well.

- ETA: Will respond to comments later, but I forgot to comment that I was thrilled that at least Mary called Mia out on the fact that she basically choreographed a routine that had less dancing for one of the dancers than any other.

Oh man. Anytime I see Wade, I think that he co-wrote "If You Wanna" (which he did). Plus he's a freakin' genius.

I think of how great he was when Justin co-judged on that one episode of Wade's dance show. How he kept promoting Justin's CD because Justin wasn't allowed to because of stupid RCA. GRRRR!

I just started to watch SYTYCD and the Hok/Jaimie routine last night was impressive. I don't know if that was jazz per say, but Wade's choreography was awesome in that he highlighted the strength of the dancers. The music was perfect too. Dominic/Sabra did a good routine, I didn't think the music fit but the leg thing near the end was cool.

I agree completely about Jaime/Hok; I'll check out the music of Dom/Sabra when I rewatch to see what you mean.

I so completely disagree. In fact, I think Lacey is probably a better dancer than Benji (who I still love). It wasn't her fault she got sucky Tyce's broadway on week 2. And while I like Sabra - Dominic is overrated and not critiqued on his faults, unlike some people. Hok is good is his genre but that wasn't Jazz and it's not really fair that Wade gets a pass for doing an admittedly wonderful piece that played to their strengths.

Hope you don't mind the complete disagreement with your opinion. Apolo and Juliane's quickstep was better than Kameron and Laceys but for SYTYCD - that was fabulous.

All Dominic did was pose in that rumba. I can understand you liking him, a lot of people do and I love her but he WAS BARELY MOVING.

- Honestly, Lacey could be a better dancer, but I find Benji so much more charismatic. So I just like him better and you know how I feel about him now. I do love Kameron, though. (And yes, the Broadway choreography did bite horrifically.) And I do agree with those who complain that the judges seem to be pimping to her, even to Kameron's detriment and that bugs me a bit.

I do love Sabra, but I also really like Dominic. However, read what I wrote again and you will note I never said he was an amazing dancer or had great technique, just that I love him, LOL! I can see his faults, definitely. As for the Rumba, I just can't be objective about it because my two favorite A/J dances are their two Rumbas so I probably lean towards being more positive with those I like so that I'm not too negative in comparison. When I rewatch it, I'll check out his lack of movement just for you.

We (me, sis & bro-in-law) wondered if the Hok/Jamie dance was jazz or not, but it was so dang cool, we found we didn't care. I just loved it so. And you're right that Wade shouldn't get a pass, but at least his choreography is always FANTASTIC which is more than can be said for just about anyone (I'm looking at you, Tyce!), so for that, yeah, I give him a pass (and of course the past Justin association melts my heart).

As for disagreeing! Hah, we agreed about the most important thing: That the A/J dances were better!!!

Dominic and Sabra are my new Ivan and Allison, except I think he'll end up being better than Ivan. They dance really well together, and are good performers but not totally over the top. And Ricky was my early favorite, so I was heartbroken they kicked him to the curb so fast.

Wade Robson is my favorite choreographer of the last twenty years, seriously. He is so creative and has such a wonderful sense of what's visually striking. ::loves:: He's also such a fantastic teacher and gets the most amazing performances out of his dancers.

Eeek!, erm, I was not an Ivan/Allison fan. Don't read my entries on last season or you might see red. LOL!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who adored Ricky!! I still miss him so .....

About Wade Robson: YES!YES!YES!!!

Haha, I have no problem with dissenting opinions. I was onboard for Allison and her technique. And while I don't think Sabra's quite at Allison's level technically, she's a much better performer which counts for a lot. Ivan was pretty much dead weight.

Ricky was so appealingly odd. And such an amazing dancer.

I liked Allison, but I liked Natalie better and was frustrated that Allison seemed to get so much more praise than Natalie, we agree about Ivan though, LOL!

I'm not sure about Sabra's technical level, I just think she's beautiful to watch.

Ah, I loved Ricky. I'm so so bummed about that.

Oh yeah, I loved Natalie too!! She was definitely my second favorite female dancer last season. I was so sad when she didn't get top 4. But I'm also obviously biased towards contemporary/non-ballroom dancers since that's where my training was.

I really think it should have been her in the top 4 over Donyelle. I did really like Donyelle, but I honestly believe she was there based on her popularity with Benji. And I still firmly believe (as I wrote in my lj about when she and Ivan were kicked off) that TPTB WANTED them gone.

Oh, I agree. And honestly, I thought both Heidi and Donyelle were there in large part because of Benji, though I thought Heidi did really well in her last couple of performances (but she also got amazing choreography and was helped a lot by that).
