Jason Dohring as a Vampire?! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THe fact that Jason Dohring landed a role on an upcoming fall series is making the news and I had to share in the joy.

Quote:
"Veronica Mars" alum Jason Dohring is reuniting with the show's producers, Warner Bros. TV and Silver Pictures, with a co-starring role on "Moonlight," their new series for CBS. The drama centers on a private investigator (Alex O'Loughlin) who is a vampire. Dohring will play ancient vampire Josef. He replaces 60-year-old Rade Serbedzija, who played the part in the pilot presentation before the character was reconceptualized as a young, mischievous hedge-fund trader. Dohring, who played Veronica Mars' (Kristen Bell) on-and-off boyfriend Logan on the critically praised CW drama, is the second new addition to "Moonlight" cast, along with recently cast Sophia Myles.
I also supremely love the fact that it's a WB/Silver TV productions because it really shows how impressed WB and Joel Silver were with him. YAY!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Hee! Snoopy!!! Okay, here's my happy children's icon!

Dohring, who played Veronica Mars' (Kristen Bell) on-and-off boyfriend Logan on the critically praised CW drama, is the second new addition to "Moonlight" cast, along with recently cast Sophia Myles.

JD is a no-brainer obviously, but Shannon Lucio (cute red-headed Lindsay from the "O.C.") to Sophia Myles (slightly older, more classic beauty) seems weird to me. Then again, JD's part lost about 45 years, so... ;)

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I thin I know who Sohpia Myles is and likes her, so I like that. But really it's ALL ABOUT JASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] ww1614.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually checked the ages on Myles and Lucio because it seemed weird to me too, and they were born the same year, according to IMDB. Now, who knows who is lying about her age, but that's the "official" record.

I think they're trying to retain the GW crowd till they get to Numb3rs. Now, I don't watch GW, so I don't know what the appeal is, but maybe they see it as bridging the gap there. Sophia Myles is way more Diane Farr than Shannon Lucio is.

I don't know. I'm just spitballing.

[identity profile] eolivet.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
they were born the same year

Aww, geez...well, I'm horrible at determining ages. ;p Then again, Lucio played a red-headed stepchild, and Myles was a freaking historical figure, so...not exactly similar roles. ;)

Sophia Myles is way more Diane Farr than Shannon Lucio is.

That's a good point, actually -- although that's assuming they can get past the word "vampire." Which I'm still not sure if they can. But yes, Myles at least looks older.

(And maybe David Tennant will guest star, given their personal relationship...hee hee ;p )

[identity profile] ww1614.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, geez...well, I'm horrible at determining ages.

If you are, so am I. I thought Myles had 10 years on Lucio.

although that's assuming they can get past the word "vampire."

Well, here's the thing. Vampires in romance fiction is very big now (aka paranormal romance). I can see a lot of people wanting to see an onscreen version of that.

What audience do you think CBS is going for on Friday nights? What kinds of numbers in what kinds of demos are they hoping for?

Can you imagine Tennant and Dohring onscreen together? *head explodes*

[identity profile] eolivet.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Vampires in romance fiction is very big now

Ooh. Interesting. See, I feel like CBS is probably the most reasoned network -- they're not going to put something on unless they feel there's a demand for it. Though I rolled my eyes when the WB premiered "Supernatural" -- but their rationale was horror movies make huge amounts of money, so there's an audience. And they were right.

What audience do you think CBS is going for on Friday nights?

Older women -- although they would most likely be the ones reading this romance fiction, I'm guessing. Still, I think ML is going to face some tough competition for that audience. Tom Selleck is joining "Las Vegas," and ABC's got that "Women's Murder Club" -- about an all-female crime-solving team, that would seem to appeal to that audience, as well.

"Close to Home" got sacked for having horrible demos -- so with the re-casting of JD's role, they clearly want ML to go younger. But they evened out his presence with Myles, IMHO -- who, as we've found out, definitely looks older than she is. ;p

What ML needs, and what GW has, is a multi-"generational" appeal. I don't mean families watch it together (although I know a few families who do watch GW together) but appeal to women/viewers of multiple ages. Which is where I think CTH ultimately failed, because it had no younger viewers, even though it was a pretty young lawyer with a new baby. Same thing happened to "Joan of Arcadia." Just 'cause they were "kids" didn't mean "kids" wanted to watch them.

Can you imagine Tennant and Dohring onscreen together?

Oh, man... Oh, the charm and charisma and snark!! ;) They'd play so well off each other...sigh... :)

[identity profile] harper47.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Adding to this discussion, as Wendy says there are tons and tons of paranormal romances on the library shelves now. It is a very popular genre. And Jason will hopefully bring in a younger demo with his Veronica Mars fans.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think I saw Myles in "From Hell" and that's what I liked her from. I remember liking her and that's the only thing she's done that I recall seeing.

I don't watch GW either (replaced JoA and LMoonves insulted JoA in the process, so yes, I'm bitter and petty about that), so I don't know the appeal.

Just based on images, Myles has a more classic beauty, whereas Lucio looks kinda like a tomboyish teenybopper. Also, I recal "Tristan & Isolde" getting a HUGE push on the WB when it came out, so perhaps they have been waiting for something for her since?

I'm a very happy fangirl right now. Don't care if that makes me sound like I"m 12.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] ww1614.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
On LJ, you never have to apologize for being a happy fangirl or sounding like you're 12. :)

[identity profile] afrocurl.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true, Wendy, very true.

It just feels slightly awkward when I have to contain my squee in front of 14 year olds.

[identity profile] ww1614.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, you should have heard me trying to explain to my sisters and mother that I want to go to NY a day later so I can watch the Doctor Who finale Saturday night. :)

"But but ... JACK CHAINS DOCTOR MASTER NINJAMARTHA *&r^%to@fgo*wf%ELEVENTY!!!!!"

[identity profile] afrocurl.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only imagine.

Half the time in class my students wonder what I'm smiling about.

[identity profile] smiles1-9.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I also supremely love the fact that it's a WB/Silver TV productions because it really shows how impressed WB and Joel Silver were with him. YAY!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!"

Those were my exact thoughts as well!!! I am so excited!! Seriously there are no words! I can't wait to be able to see him on my tv every week!

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
That really gives me hope that if this tanks, Silver and WB still have their eye on him and furthermore, if Silver has a film in the pipeline that would work for JD, he'll think of him. One can hope.

[identity profile] shangri--la.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, aside from it all, the Joel Silver/WB thing thrilled me most of all. Even if the show doesn't last, the fact that he was thrown in there, along with Sophia Myles, as a last minute replacement, speaks volumes.

I mean, you don't see JS hiring KB randomly, do you? ;)

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Right, aside from being able to see him again so soon, I'm thrilled about that.

From what I've heard, JS is not too fond of La Bell (but who can blame him?)

[identity profile] diamondrocker.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Just. Complete. And total. Awesome.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes and another YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] slayervixen.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought life couldn't get any better it just DID. I cannot wait for this show.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, life is sucking for me, but this was certainly great news. Yay!!!

[identity profile] midnight-27.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I also supremely love the fact that it's a WB/Silver TV productions because it really shows how impressed WB and Joel Silver were with him. Best part. Not only is Jason on our radar but the 'industry' as well.

I didn't even hear about this show until Jason being cast and now it is THE show to watch this fall :)

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I had seen a quick peek of it and was intrigued by the premise, so yay, it was already on my "to watch" list. I wrote this about it:

- Moonlight (I actually was VERY unimpressed with the clip, but the premise really gets to me, so I'll keep an ear out and maybe give it a shot.

[identity profile] midnight-27.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Now it is a definite :)

I remember you writing that list, I finally saw a clip of 'Pushing Daises' and thought that was interesting, especially visually.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. The one that I liked the most was "Reaper" on the CW. It looked fabulous!

Omg!*squee*

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] harper47.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Now here's a post we can agree on. Isn't this fabulous? And it's just what you wanted, Jason getting noticed by the Powers that Be. I am beyond thrilled. I was going to watch this anyway because I love the genre and now with Jason?

I can't stop sqeeing.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we didn't disagree as much as you though in the SYTCD post. You're right, this is exactly what I wanted -- us knowing that Jason has been positively noticed by TPTB. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SQUEE!! SQUEE!!! It's a world of squee!

[identity profile] titaniabelle.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This actually sounds really cool and I'm happy for Jason since I was worried that he might not get a lot of work. I've never been into vampire shows but it could be interesting and I'll definitely check it out for Jason. Plus, I'm a fan of Sophia Myles so it should be awesome to have two actors I like sharing the screen. It would be neat if Sophia could bring her bf over to guest star! When does DW tape? Doesn't it have some sort of weird schedule? Yay, Jason!!!

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if DT could guest-star, but that would be pretty awesome and I know some fangirls who would FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks

[identity profile] tigereyes320.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Not for Jason for me!!!! I can't get CBS on my tv and I can't afford cable.

Re: That sucks

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that sucks for you. I'm sure that clips will be put up AND I hope to have a new JD board up this weekend, hopefully by the time the show premieres, we'll have people on there who can do quick clips and so his scenes will be clipped quickly, and then you can dl the whole episode. Sorry, that just sucks for you.

[identity profile] freezing-82.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
it really shows how impressed WB and Joel Silver were with him. YAY!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from all our justified fangirling around, he's a brillian young actor and it's impossible not to be charmed by his acting and his scenic presence. I mean, come on! :D

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Very, very true.

Oooh, I LOVE your icon!! So moody ....

[identity profile] freezing-82.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahoy! Logan never-fails-to-turn-me-on *coughs* I meant..he never fails to leave me speachless and in complete AWE! :D

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahoy Mateys! was my 2nd fave Logan episode from S2 (ep 17, Plan B) being my favorite).

[identity profile] freezing-82.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww! yes, that one too!
I'm hoping to start a season 1 to 3 'Logan best of' in a few days, as soon as I'll get some free time from the office. :P
