Miscellaneous TV thoughts

Just a bunch of random TV thoughts on various shows behind the cut.

Shockingly enough a new show I like is actually doing REALLY well in the ratings. The Mentalist's second week barely dropped at all and it had about 15 million viewers, so yay! I really do enjoy this show and urge everyone to give it a shot. How I Met Your Mother is also doing pretty well in the ratings this year too. They are experiencing their best ratings this season so far, so double yay! Whether the Barney/Robin angle, Dr. Horrible or just Neil Patrick Harris' overall bigger presence, I do think it's quite a safe bet to say that the increase has to do in some way with NPH. Woohoo!!

On the flip side, I can't say anything good about my other shows. Terminator's ratings are basically a complete disaster. It will be lucky if they even film/air all of their 13 episode order. Sigh. I hope that they are at least able to wrap something up somehow. Damnit. I really love this show, but its ratings are just horrible, so no way it's sticking around much longer. Likewise, Prison Break will finish out its 13-episode order and then it's done. I think that's a shame, though, because other than the T-Bag scenes which feel too separate, I think this is the strongest season they've had. Oh well. Hopefully they too, like Terminator, will be able to wrap stuff up.

Also, Life isn't doing that hot. Double sigh. It only had the Monday airing so far, but I doubt they'll have better ratings on Friday night. It's really frustrating, especially in the case of Terminator and this show, because they are both so very, very good. Again, hopefully, they'll get some wrap-up opportunity.

The one good thing about Terminator going bye-bye sooner rather than later is that I'll be able to DVR DwtS on Monday night because I am having a hard time catching up with it in time and and am so behind in watching it. I did manage to watch most of the Monday dancing, and then the results show and THANK GOD! Kym went. She was dreadful. Yes, Cloris is awful also, but Kym was like dead weight out there. Just horrible. I still like Julianne/Cody, Lance/Lacey and Rocco/Karina, but it sure looks like a Toni/Alec and Derek/Brooke finale already. It's a shame because neither does ANYTHING for me. I think that Julianne/Cody have a shot at sneaking in there with his teenage fan-base, her fanbase, and his surprising skill, and then maybe DwtS can finally have their sibling vs sibling finale! OOH!!

Boston Legal FINALLY (in their fifth and final season) have the perfect cast. About damn time! And two episodes in, I gotta say, they are kicking ASS so far. Both episodes have been SO, SO, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Everything I love about this show has been on display and I'm really, really enjoying this season so far.

Die, Kenley, die!! Seriously, did she EVER stop and think that maybe the reason that she's had to fight so hard and against everyone her whole life is because she's such a rude, obnoxious, BITCH!?!?!? Lordy, is she awful? And considering we are getting reaction from EVERYONE on the show who relates to her, and almost every word out of her mouth is rude, obnoxious, self-deluded and bitchy, I doubt that it's the editing.

With that said, I do understand why all four are getting this chance, even her, because I am actually curious too to see what she comes up with, BUT I really, really, REALLY want her to get that close to BP and then NOT MAKE IT! Because I can not stand her. At all. Of the remaining three, I'm happy with anyone of them winning it with a preference for Jerell.

Dirty Sexy Money had a good premiere. I HATE Lisa's hair and continue to find her an annoying waste of space ... when she's not with Jeremy. They have chemistry and I like them; I also like Nick and Karen. They have chemistry too and I loved their moments in tonight's episode. I thought they did a really good job (better than actually had all last season) making them appear as the rooting-for, destined to be couple, without making either look like bad, bad people in the process. Of course, part of my point of view, no doubt, comes from the fact that I don't like Nick and Lisa, at all.

I was shocked by Ellen's death, and I'm confused as to why Karen gave daddy the swan. I hope that she's still playing Simon to some degree because I'd hate to think that he's playing her and she's completely clueless to it. Overall, it was good. Not great, but good.

CBS has come back the strongest of any network vs. last year, and I think the reason is because they were the only net to get ALL their shows back after the strike: they got them back early (mid-March) and everything came back -- including the freshman shows. I think CBS is seeing the fruits of their labors pay off this year, which is cool.

(Higher HIMYM ratings could be attributed to higher usage levels, though -- more people watch TV at 8:30 than 8PM. But NPH is probably also a factor. ;)

I'm sooo happy to hear BL is doing well!!! I've got the first two eps on my DVR, and I'm anxious to see them. :) I'm glad the show got to come back and go out on its own terms. :D

You liked the DSM premiere? I got tired of the show last year, and didn't DVR it...do you think it's worth giving it a second chance? It just...never seemed like it went anywhere. No real plot. :/ And I loooove Peter Krause, so this was not a decision I made lightly. :p

Yeah, but they canceled Moonlight!!!!! Hah, yeah, it wasn't great, but still .... Overall, they are doing right and you're right.

No, you're wrong ... it's ALL NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!!!!!! HAH!

Boston Legal is so very good this season, you'll love it.

I did like the DSM premiere, but if you had issues with the first season I'm not sure you'd still give a shot, but if you have time ... stuff DOES happen.

Yeah, but they canceled Moonlight!!!!!

Sigh...I know, but I've been reading a lot about ML lately and there seems to be the idea that it was only aired so they could get Alex O'Loughlin under contract -- that they never had any intention of renewing it. :/ So...CBS doomed ML from the start.

The other thing that nobody is saying is maybe network TV is just attracting older viewers now -- that younger viewers are...doing something else. Hence, all the older-skewing CBS shows doing well and all the other shows...not so much. :/

if you have time ... stuff DOES happen.

That's good. Last season, I was charmed by the Darling family and enjoyed their antics until...that was all it was: the Darling family antics. And Nick occasionally talking about who killed his father. Then the Blair Underwood plot came out of left field and...well, by then, I just didn't care. :x

Hmm, poor Moonlight. And, really? Alex O'Loughlin?! I just do NOT see it. Sigh.

This makes SO much sense. I think that you may be absolutely right.

Okay, yeah, stuff DEFINITELY happens then. Check out the premiere, see what you think.

My thoughts are with you on ratings. I'm so sad about Terminator as I've enjoyed it far more this season than last. But I'm already mentally saying goodbye. At least Fringe is surging.

As for Mother - whoo hoo. I'm going to give NPH all the credit too. Go NPH!!!

But I'm sad about Life. I enjoyed the first season on DVD and I have the new episode on the DVR but I must say I'm not surprised. I don't think it did that well last year and probably only survived due to the strike. Still, it might do better on Fridays. Nothing can stop that stupid CSI Miami. Sigh.

I loathe Kenley. But reality shows love their villains don't they?

Yeah, I thought of you when I was writing up the ratings portion of the post.

I loathe Kenley. But reality shows love their villains don't they?

They do, but I can't stand THEM!!!!!!!! Ugh, she's awful. Loathsome is a good word.

Die, Kenley, die!! Seriously, did she EVER stop and think that maybe the reason that she's had to fight so hard and against everyone her whole life is because she's such a rude, obnoxious, BITCH!?!?!?

Lord, YES! What is it with her? I get it, she is 25 and basically brain-dead, but come on! Why, oh why is she still on? She is no more talented than some of the departed designers, she is downright obnoxious to her peers, and she is borderline rude to the judges and Tim. Every attempt to help, guide or give her an honest opinion is met with such smug disdain, it's unbearable. And I would at least -- if not excuse, then allow -- some of it, had she shown a talent to back this attitude up! She hasn't. Her fellow contestants are right: she makes the same damn 50s dress again and again, but unlike, say, Uli from Miami two seasons ago, who also basically made the same dress, Kenley's same dress has no sophistication or even enough interest to sustain or justify it.

In short, along with you, I hope she's laughed out of the Briant Park come fashion week. Her excuse of "I had to fight so hard" is laughable. Hey, dear, do you really think you had it tougher than Korto, or, say Jerell? Why is your struggle getting extra attention? No, you are not a fighter, you are not a survivor, you are not a great talent overcoming obstacles. You are just an entitled bitch too in love with yourself to ever really grow. You are a 5-year-old, petulant and dabbling.

I'm pulling for Lianne! Love her designs, ruffles and all. And something about her mousy librarian look just speaks to me, lol. Totally baseless preference, I know, but there it is. :)

I just read your whole post going "YES!! YES!!! YES!!" Oh my goodness, soooooooooooooo annoying. I like Leanne, but I'd be cool with any of the three again. I just like Jerell's stuff over all the best.

Boston Legal really has been so terrific this season so far! And I was so proud of Alan for not attempting to kiss Married!Opposition a couple of episodes ago. I think that he might have, in the past, and it would have been a big mistake. He really has grown. And I absolutely adore Katie, who kicked all kinds of ass in her recent closing. And I hated Carl when they introduced him, but I adore him now.

Shirley is always awesome.

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's been a FABULOUS season so far. Two eps in true, but it's still so, so good.

And the cast is marvelous, Katie is WONDERFUL, and again it may have taken til this final season, but they FINALLY got the perfect cast. Finally.
