Very nice downplaying and I think that is what got such praise.
As you may have read in my journal, I didn't get the praise for this at all -- a slightly folkier version of Jeff Buckley's famous take. Maybe I've just heard that song to death, but it really stuck to me as being similar...
Say what you will about the David A. pimping, but that boy HAS the voice, HITS the notes and sounds amazing.

True! (Although why she did so well with "Amazing Grace" is beyond me -- hee, I first typed "Amazing Race." Now there's a song I want to hear! :)
I think people who don't adore this song so will really like her performance though.
I thought she did the Mariah Carey version (which...isn't my favorite. Actually, I just don't think this song should be re-made, ever, and it is my favorite pop song of all time. :)
Thought Asia'h outperformed (and outsang) Syesha. Too bad the former might be the one in danger (due to performance order :x )
