So I was thinking about Jim Parsons and how over the course of the last month or so, the reaction to him has turned toward drooling, flailing, capslock-squeeing over his hotness, etc. Even the media has jumped in a bit, with one reporter calling him sexy, and TV Guide issue that interviewed him had this on their cover:

So, anyhoo, it got me to thinking about my recent fandoms and how all of the guys in them (that I find attractive) are not the stereotypical, conventional "hunks" that one usually hears drooled about in the media. The two things they have in common are: amazing talent and jaw-dropping charisma. Apparently for me, and those with who I share the fandom, that's enough to make one drool ... even if the guys aren't the cliched H'wood beauty. (Although, admittedly, some come closer than others).

As I've stated elsewhere, once I finished season two of New Who, I was going to rewatch and review what I call my "Her Name was Rose" collection (click here for the full list of episodes). I know it's been over two months since I did the rewatch-review for Bad Wolf, but with real life happenings and, more especially, the knowledge that after this there was no more Nine, no more Christopher Eccleston, I've been delaying doing this one.

Oh heck, it has nothing to do with real life, I just didn't want to say goodbye to Nine yet. *Sigh* I do adore the Ninth Doctor so. I've been a fan of Eccleston for years, but this show, his performance as the Doctor made me absolutely love him. *Double sigh* But here we are, at last ... 'The Parting of the Ways' ... Specific spoilers for series one, as well as 'Doomsday' and 'Journey's End.' )

I've commented on how great I do think that Doctor Who's "Human Nature/Family of Blood" is, but yet, I can't love it because I don't like Joan, and I put that all down to the actress playing her. She's just too cold and aloof and I just don't like her. Anyhoo, it struck me the other day that if Sarah Parrish had been playing Joan, it would have been perfect. She has the looks, attitude, talent and chemistry with David already to have made the character work magnificently for me.

So I *finally* watched "Voyage of the Damned." I know why I initially waited to watch it. I was skipping through series three of Who and then read a note about Billie Piper's appearance in "Partners in Crime" being a very rare BBC secret so that it shocked everyone and was like "AAAHHH! Rose!!! Must get to series four!!!"

So when I finished series three, I knew that the Christmas episode didn't really impact what happened in four, so yeah, that's why I passed it over. Now I had intended to go back and watch it once I was caught up (mid-season four), but I had gotten more and more into the Doctor/Rose relationship, and I read not so nice commentary about the episode and Astrid/Kylie Minogue. Then I saw brief flashes here and there of the interaction between the Doctor and Astrid that my newly Doctor/Rose-loving heart rebelled against. So yeah, didn't watch it forever.

Well, I finally did. The verdict? )

ETA: A few more thoughts upon reading/responding to comments. )
arabian: (David Tennant_01)
I was trying to get my 2-year old niece to tell me that she loved me. Succeeded, and then we moved on to further confirmation about all family members because she says "yeah" very cutely. So I repeat all immediate family member names and she says "yeah" (cutely). Then she says "who else?" So I start throwing random family names out. Finally I say my brother's name -- the uncle she's never met and I realize she just wants to acknowledge her love for any name I throw at her.

So I ask "Do you love Billie Piper?" She says, "yeah." I ask "Do you love Nine and Rose?" Her response: "Yeah." "Do you love Ten and Rose?" Predictably, "yeah." Then I ask: "Who do you love more: Nine and Rose or Ten and Rose?" And she says without missing a beat, "Ten and Rose." I laughed and said, "Ah, so you're a Tennant girl?" And she says, "I Tennant girl," clear as day.

Sorry, Chris.

I *was* going to do the rewatch-review of "Bad Wolf" today, but blame David Tennant for the lack as I simply had to watch Einstein and Eddington. I figured I'd share my thoughts on it, as well as some Eccleston and Tate stuff I've watched as I go through my list of Eccleston, Piper, Tennant and Tate filmographies.

The Catherine Tate Show (series 1) )

Starter for Ten )

You know, you know, the coral one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. (Thanks to [ profile] goldy_dollar for the linkage!)

Behind the cut, it's behind the cut!!! )
arabian: (Christopher Eccleston_01)
I'm watching Shallow Grave -- second time, but it's been years -- on my way to going through all of Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, David Tennant and Catherine Tate's filmogrophies. I'm about ten seconds in and the film begins with Eccleston's character narrating ... and he's using a Scottish accent!!.

Please tell me I'm not the only Doctor-fan squeeing over this just because of the Tennant-Scottish connection? Please tell me I'm not alone here.

Doctor Who casting news.

I've had a crazy, intense week; it's not over yet, but I HAD to post about this.Read more... )
arabian: (David & Billie Dancing)
So, I'm beginning to go through my scads of Billie Piper, David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston and Catherine Tate filmographies. I've already discussed (ad nauseum) Secret Diary of a Call Girl and, no doubt, will continue to do so, but here are some older projects, one with Billie, the other with David. (I've got Second Coming with Chris Eccleston, and Starter for Ten with Catherine Tate next.) Anyhoo, on with my thoughts on both productions below, obviously spoilers (especially for the plot/ending of SS.)

Despite being psychotically organized on my computer, I have somehow managed to lose that uber-cute picture of David/Billie's shoes from "The Idiot's Lantern." Would someone please help me out? Thanks.

On a non-related note, I know that my rewatch-review of "Father's Day" is two weeks behind. If you read my last post, you know that I've been in a bit of an emotional slump as of late, and last weekend I had Dragon*Con (the post is coming, but I need my sister to email a certain picture!!!) and this weekend, well, see emotional slump. I just know that FD is going to take FOREVER. It's the episode I remember loving the most from S1, the other episode I remember loving was TUD and that one took my five hours to do up. I know that FD will take longer, with more clips, caps, not to mention long, rambling words on the Doctor, on Rose, on the Doctor/Rose relationship, on the writing/direction, etc., you name it. This one's gonna be a doozy and I want to rewatch and review it when I'm good and ready for it because this one's special to me.

Erm, in case anyone was wondering where the heck the next rewatch-review was.
arabian: (Billie Piper_01)
For the most part. Just reading comments here and there over the last couple of months and finding myself thinking but I DO like that or I DON'T like that, and after writing up this quite, quite unpopular opinion re: Donna post, I was inspired to compile a list and am just now putting it up. Now, I know one is extremely unpopular, and one I found out after I wrote the list, edges more towards popular and my goodness, can I ramble? Anyhoo, the list in no particular order ...behind the cut )

So share your thoughts, your own opinions that might be a tad outside the norm. Will be fun to read. :D (I know some of my other Who icons are much more appropriate, but new Billie icon! Squee!! I had to use it.)
arabian: (Companions of Forever)
I haven't actually watched any of the movies/shows on my Who-drought list, but I have a few more to add to them, plus I added Catherine Tate to my list of Eccleston, Piper and Tennant. I do plan on watching all of these no both lists, but I want to finish my rewatch-review of my Rose episodes first, thus the delay. (And, hey, by the time I get to them maybe Hamlet will have been released on DVD. One can dream.)

David Tennant )

Billie Piper )

Catherine Tate )

Any thoughts (non-spoilery) on any of the above are appreciated. :)
arabian: (Dr Who (Rose/10/9))
I know that I still have Doctor Who posts to respond to, I was mostly without internet last week and am still catching up. Anyhoo, since it's early Saturday and my brain is still dead from a long week, mindless stuffies now. I wanted to share my upcoming list of Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and David Tennant things to watch that I've compiled and/or am getting from Netflix. I'm fairly certain that with all of the following, as well as rewatching (and reviewing) the Rose-Who episodes, I'll get through the upcoming (mostly) Who drought with ease. Fairly certain.

Christopher Eccleston )

Billie Piper )

David Tennant )

Any thoughts (non-spoilery) on any of the above are appreciated. :)

So I friended [ profile] fid_gin a few days ago from the Doctor Who fandom because, good posts, good discussion, good information ... including this:

David Tennant ... dancing, and singing to The Smiths. Can we say AWESOME!?!?!? Why, yes, we can! So I went back on youtube and grabbed a few other clips of his from Viva Blackpool, which has been so added to my must-watch David/Billie stuff after I've recovered from the end of this season. (No, I haven't forsaken Christopher Eccleston, I've just seen all of his stuff before except for The Second Coming -- written by Russell T. Davies!!!!!! -- which I have on my Netflix queue.)

Anyhoo, more clips behind the cut )
arabian: (Rose and Donna)
Wow. Man, that was so, so, so, soooooooooooooo freaking good! God, I love this fucking show so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, I was bummed about Russell T. Davies leaving before "Midnight," but after that EXCELLENT episode, and now this ... I'm just dying inside at the thought of his departure (especially when taking into account Moffat's last two-parter). But, again, like I said last week, at least he's going out with a bang!!!!!!!!

Click for looooooooooong, rambling thoughts. LONG! )
arabian: (Donna Noble)
Doctor Who thoughts, wonderful, awesome, my favoritest show on TV right now, Doctor Who thoughts. Literally, I was skipping with glee today knowing a new episode was on its way. Woohoo!! (Oh, and ignore my last post about wondering about the airdates of the next episodes, they're airing one after the other like normal. The guide I go to just didn't have them up for some reason. Phew!)

Somewhat lengthy thoughts on tonight's episode: 'Midnight' including preview for next week's ep thoughts. )
