arabian: (Sin City (BW/JA))

So I watched Sin City about three months ago and I thought it was awesome. Like OHMYGOD!BESTMOVIEOFTHEYEAR awesome. And I fully intended to buy it, but being broke and all, I didn't. Then I got into a huge Moonlighting kick (note to self, next LJ post will be all about the glory of ML) and decided to watch every single Bruce Willis movie ever made -- yes, this means I watched the absolute god-awful horror that is Hudson Hawk -- and so I rewatched SC and once again experienced a wave of love so fierce that I want to have Frank Miller's babies as long as they live in Basin City.

Still broke, still not buying the movie, though. Flashforward to Thanksgiving week and per usual, I joined my sister and family in Georgia and we rented SC. And again, the gorgeous awesomeness of this movie just blew me away. I love it so much. It is so gorgeous, so beautiful, so deep, so intelligent, so much damn fun to watch. It's poetry come to life on a screen. I so deeply regret not watching this in the theater. That would have been an experience.

The funny thing is that after I watched it the first time, I didn't think of it as violent at all, just awesome. Then I read a bunch of reviews and they were all VIOLENT! VIOLENT! VIOLENT! And I was like, (in totally duh! voice) "it wasn't violent." Then they're describing the violence, shootings, stabbings, castrations (yes, plural), cannibalism, etc. and I realized yeah, I guess it was violent. But watching it again, it IS violent, but it's not violent in like normal movie way, it's not in your face. It's graphic novel violence and so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I can't wait for the sequel and damnit, I will buy this movie upon my return home. I will buy it and cherish it. I will love it and squeeze it and call it George.
