I got this one from [livejournal.com profile] kalleah.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

Note: I make all of my own icons, so thus the lack of credit to, erm, anyone else in that regard.

Her icon choices

#1 After watching "The Runaway Bride" and the first couple of episodes of series four of Doctor Who, I simply could not contain my Donna love anymore. So I had to make an icon honoring her utter awesomeness. I went looking through promo shots and actually didn't like most of them because they were kinda meh, but this picture just screamed what I wanted it too and since I was always on about how Donna was the most awesome that had ever been awesomeed, I thought up text that was a fitting tribute to that belief. I did some cropping and lightening of the picture, did away with the freaky-deaky lights background of the original image, used this lighter background so that Donna was the focal point and then added the lens flare to add a bit of a 'she's a STAR!' edge to it.

#2 After getting soooooooo into Who, I decided I wanted an icon for Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant (yes, shockingly, I was NOT into Billie enough at the time to even bother with one for her. I KNOW!!!!!!!!!). I went looking for shots of them NOT Who-related and I just fell in love with this promo shot of David (from Casanova). I just softened it with a pale, creamy texture and let his utter gorgeousness in the shot speak for itself. It's now my standard pretty please do [fill in the blank] icon in Who related posts because really how can any Ten fan deny those puppy-dog eyes?

#3 My man, Abe. Abraham Lincoln has literally been my idol since before I hit my teens. I've read dozens and dozens of books on him, I have a one-sheet of quotes by him hanging on my wall. I have faked-parchment paper copies of his second inaugural address and 'The Gettysburg Address' (as well as having the latter memorized). When I began following Barack Obama's campaign last year, he deliberately invoked Lincoln a lot and so that brought me back to a Lincoln renaissance where I began reading some new books on him. And when I made an Obama icon it just did not feel right not making an Abe one. The quote is one of my absolute favorites about him, said by Edward Bates, a former opponent for the Republican nomination, who later served on his cabinet. I read the quote in an amazing novel on Lincoln and all of his opponents during that race in Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
Though Bates initially viewed Lincoln as a well-meaning but incompetent administrator, he eventually concluded that the president was an unmatched leader, "very near being a 'perfect man.'"

#4 This is a shot of Logan Echolls (played by Jason Dohring, whom I adore -- he's the male equivalent of Billie for me) from the third episode ("Meet John Smith") of season one, Veronica Mars. His best friend, Duncan, handed him his schoolbag and headed to the bathroom, as Duncan came out, Logan was casually, calmly reading one of Duncan's notebooks. That aspect of where the image came from is just soooooooo Logan. The quote is from Logan, but from a later episode in season two (2.19, "Nevermind the Buttocks"). I was going through caps shortly after the latter episode aired and I just had to combine the two to make an icon. Now it's my all-purpose icon for when I'm talking about a like, dislike, feeling, etc. when I don't have a fandom-specific icon to use.

#5 In my last job, I had copious amounts of time to read and thus was doing quite a few entries on books I'd read. As I really like my icons to match my subjects to some degree, I realized that I needed a book icon of some sort. I went to good ole google image, typed in books, saw this drawing and it was perfect. I cropped, re-sized and used a couple of textures to give it the soft, warm glow that I generally get from reading.
