The good and bad about the Emmys

For those who haven't watched it and plan to, I will put this behind a cut.
THE BAD
- Colbert losing to Bennett. Damnit, what must he do to win? And what the hell is wrong with the academy? A one-time show should NOT be in the same category as a show with multiple original episodes.
- The lame-ass circular stage that only favored part of the audience.
- Hayden P's dress. The skirt had WAY too much fabric.
- The presence of La Bell.
THE GOOD
- Colbert losing to Bennet. Boy, oh, boy is he going to milk this, but good!!
- The testimonials about Steve Carell from his cast.
- Katherine Heigl's presentation (damn straight, she corrected her name and she wasn't a bitch about it, she acknowledged it was a hard name) and her win!! Woohoo!! LOVE HER!!!!
- The Rainn Wilson/Kanye West bit.
- Colbert/Stewart "giving" the Emmy to their friend Steve Carell and the ensuing on-stage celebration. BEST MOMENT EVER!!!
- James Spader winning! YES!!! I simply did not expect him to win at all. And when he did? I jumped out of my seat and did the happy dance because as far as I'm concerned, he pretty much deserves to win every year. Jason Dohring is my favorite actor right now (television and film) and I think he's one of the best actors I've ever had the pleasure of watching, but James Spader? Hands down is the best actor on television right now. What that man can do! Wow. And anyone bitching about Gandolfini or Laurie not winning, I honestly think the vast majority of them simply do not or have not ever watched the brilliance of Spader on BL, because his excellence is just unmatched. The man is amazing and I'm so, so thrilled that he won.
ETA: Hee, it was a totally a typo, but my cut accidentally left "the presence of a certain person" in the open under bad. Hee.

Seriously. I had to defend him two years ago when Hugh Laurie lost to him again, and...that's the thing I'll never understand about drama -- why so many people feel it has to be OMGserious. BL has some of the best acting on television, even with sometimes silly subject matter. :)
Go, James Spader! And don't apologize for your win, either -- nobody "owes" the "Sopranos" cast anything!! :x

Date: 2007-09-17 06:45 pm (UTC)Heigl. She is good. But I honestly don't think she is better than Sandra Oh. But since I don't much care for either way -- "Gray's" is the show I cannot take seriously or get involved emotionally -- I'm indifferent.
La Bell was a nightmare. Why does she insist on dressing as if she were 6" tall? And why was she there again?
Colbert will definitely milk this. Which is a very good thing. :)
I didn't watch the Emmys, since they bore me (all award shows do), but it was fun to read the comments. :)

Date: 2007-09-17 07:28 pm (UTC)I had to go google some images to see what you and Hiddeneloise were talking about with the dresses. Hayden P and KB are pretty short, I'm 5 foot tall and It's taken me years to work out what to wear so as not to highlight that fact. I don't know why someone didn't tell them that those dresses are not little people friendly. Hayden P looks a bit like a kid playing dress up, definitely over did it on the fabric on the bottom. KB's dress just kind of sags and is far too long at the bottom.
As for KB even being there, I don't know. She's not even on the show yet, why should she be there to celebrate any wins when she had nothing to with them. I know you have to get your face out there to be noticed in Hollywood but the more I see of her the more she strikes me as someone who would go to the opening of an envelope to get publicity.
I'm kind of glad Gandolfini didn't win. There seems to be a habit of throwing awards at shows that are ending, regardless of whether or not they're deserved.

Yuppers. You hit the nail on the head exactly!
I'm glad Gandolfini AND Sutherland didn't win. (And I say this loving Kiefer and 24, but last season BIT!!!)

Date: 2007-09-17 08:52 pm (UTC)I like Katherine Heigl from Roswell days and I thought her acceptance speech was very sweet. She looked beautiful.
I don't watch BL but I think everyone in the audience was more or less shocked that James S. won, the beginning of his speech was nicely done.
Hayden P's dress was awful, but Ali L. looked amazing in red. It looks like we are stuck with lots of K.Bell even though she isn't even a regular on the show - arg!

HAHA, so true. My mother asked, no less than FIVE times, "Are you sure she's not pregnant?!"
The testimonials about Steve Carell from his cast.
Hee, yes. Those were made of so much win. (That and the Family Guy intro with Brian and Stewie. I was very, very surprised that they were daring enough to put that out there, but it was great, as usual.)
Colbert/Stewart "giving" the Emmy to their friend Steve Carell and the ensuing on-stage celebration. BEST MOMENT EVER!!!
OMG, YES! THAT woke me up and made me laugh and dance around with them. I love them all so hard.

Date: 2007-09-19 10:45 pm (UTC)KATHERINE. I hate how they were like DIVA! PAY RAISE! ETC! Guys, Izzie on GA is loved. One of the ONLY reasons I watch(ed). She really is/was. I think people forget she is so professional, almost 20 years. A child actress that is just NOW getting what she has deserved. It always shows that intelligence and beauty can work successfully. I really could care less if ABC realizes they have hot commodity because I'll be pissed if they give her a pay raise ONLY because of the Emmy, not because they came to her senses. And her next film, another rom com, sounds SO clever. I can't wait. Post-GA, I bet she'll have a few Charlize Theron-ish films.
