Date: 2006-03-31 02:35 pm (UTC)Mary Balogh: The Slightly Series (Slightly Sinful, etc.)
Lisa Kleypas, Devil in Winter
Anything by Carla Kelly (she's Regency, though)
Pamela Morsi's older works; I like Wild Oats and Garters
Contemporary: SUZANNE BROCKMANN. Run to the store and buy these. Start with Prince Joe or The Unsung Hero or Heartthrob.
Mystery: Janet Evanovich: Start with One for the Money
Victoria Thompson writes historical mysteries. I forget what the first one is called. Murder on Astor Place? Here's a list of her books: http://www.victoriathompson.homestead.com/books.html
Have fun. :)

Date: 2006-03-31 03:59 pm (UTC)I definitely reccommend anything by Janet Evanovich- but especially her Stephanie Plum series, it has mystery and a little romance and it will crack you up!
ALso Julie Garwood is my absolute favorite romance author she used to write strictly historical romances but she's branched out into contemporary as well.
Hope this helps!

Date: 2006-03-31 07:29 pm (UTC)The whole Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin. The best crime novels out there. I suggest reading in chronological order, even though it's not strictly necessary.
