Eccleston/Piper/The Tennant Viewing to get me through the 'Who' Drought

I know that I still have Doctor Who posts to respond to, I was mostly without internet last week and am still catching up. Anyhoo, since it's early Saturday and my brain is still dead from a long week, mindless stuffies now. I wanted to share my upcoming list of Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and David Tennant things to watch that I've compiled and/or am getting from Netflix. I'm fairly certain that with all of the following, as well as rewatching (and reviewing) the Rose-Who episodes, I'll get through the upcoming (mostly) Who drought with ease. Fairly certain.

Christopher Eccleston - These are through Netflix, alas, I'm still trying to find Jude as it's not available on Netflix and I haven't seen it in years. The library is my next stop.

- The Second Coming - So excited for this one. Russell T. Davies wrote it. Yay!!!!
- Let Him Have It - Never saw it
- Inspector Morse 16: Second Time Around - Never saw it
- Death and the Compass - Never saw it
- Elizabeth - I watched this one when it came out, but I watched it only once and barely remember it. I look forward to watching it again.
- Existenz - Another one I watched ages ago when it came out, but I don't even remember CE's role in it, it's been so long.
- Masterpiece Theatre: Othello - I never saw it, but REALLY looking forward to this, it got great reviews, with major kudos for CE. Can't wait.
- The Invisible Circus - I never saw it, he's on the DVD cover, so he must have a significant fole. I hope so anyway, because I'm not a Jordana Brewster or Cameron Diaz fan. Sigh.
- The Others - Watched this one -- I love Nicole Kidman, but I honestly don't even remember his role in it. It's another one I watched when it first came out and haven't seen it since.
- Cracker - If I like it (and I think I will), I'll watch all three series, because CE is in all three.
- Revenger's Tragedy nina_ds recommended this one highly, so I look forward to it.
- 28 Days Later - I loved this when I watched it, I love Cillian Murphy, so I'm really looking forward to rewatching it.
- Perfect Parents - I never watched it.
- Lewis & Clark and Other Great Adventures - Never watched it, and good thing I like history, LOL!
- A Price Above Rubies - Never watched it, because it never interested me, but we'll see ...
- The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising - I never saw this, but I did read the first book the series is based upon and this book, so and I'm pretty sure of the character he plays, so good casting.
- Shallow Grave - Oh, I can't wait to watch this one again. I'm pretty positive that this is the second thing I saw him in, but I watched it for Ewan MacGregor, but LOVED, LOVED CE in it.
- The League of Gentleman: Series 3 - Sounds interesting and I do find British humor quite funny, so, we'll see.

Billie Piper ... Much shorter list, some are downloaded and some are on Netflix. I haven't seen any of these.

- Billie Piper music videos/live performances - Yes, I actually downloaded a bunch of these, LOL!
- Mansfield Park - This hasn't had the greatest of reviews, but I'll give it a shot for her.
- Shakespeare Retold - "Much Ado About Nothing." I haven't seen it, but she's in it as well as other actors I like (Damian Lewis!!).
- Ruby in the Smoke - This has had good reviews, and I think I read somewhere that she's doing another one based on the series.
- Secret Diary of a Call Girl - Forget waiting for Showtime, I just got the Brit version.

David Tennant ... Again, a much smaller list.

- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Haven't watched it in a while, but I actually own it, so I'll be watching it again.
- Bright Young Things - Doesn't sound like he has a big part, but it has a lot of actors I like and I like Stephen Fry, so, it's on the list.
- Casanova - I've heard nothing but good about this, so yay!
- Blackpool - I did get it, and I loved musicals, and have seen snippets that look interesting to say the least.

Any thoughts (non-spoilery) on any of the above are appreciated. :)

I was going through IMDB, and saw that Christopher Eccleston was in Invisible Circus. Now I did watch this movie, I can't for the life of me remember his character. I do know he had a major role, but it wasn't as prevalent as Cameron Diaz or Jordana Brewster.

I actually liked the BP version of Mansfield Park better than the movie version with Frances O'Connor. But then again, I watched it on a trans-Atlantic flight when I was hard up for entertainment so my desperation may have factored into the magnitude of my enjoyment.

Oh, that's good to know, because I didn't like the Frances O'Connor version. I do like her as an actress, but she didn't work for me and neither did that version of the story.

The Others - Watched this one -- I love Nicole Kidman, but I honestly don't even remember his role in it. It's another one I watched when it first came out and haven't seen it since.

Do you want me to remind you, or be surprised? Because it was a small part, but crucial.

I wouldn't necessarily bother with eXistenZ, although I think it's a better version of The Matrix than The Matrix. His part is, again, small.

A Price Above Rubies is an interesting premise that dissolved into a chick flick - but I have thought of a way to make it better. Would that they would let me remake it!

The wig in the Humboldt (Lewis & Clark) documentary is quite entertaining. Actually, he does romantic curls fairly well, it's just a shock. ;-)

Just a warning: Let Him Have It is, along with Jude, a real four-hanky extravaganza. They're both well worth watching, but...

I used to really like Billie Piper's music videos for some reason (although "Because We Want To" may be the most annoying song ever recorded). I later felt it was just because of her charisma. I think one of the reasons she and Eccleston worked together so well is that they both have a similar heat with the camera. They clicked in a way I've never seen her do with another co-star.

Oh, and the second movie after Ruby in the Smoke is The Shadow in the North, which I think is slightly better than the first one.

Don't tell me about The Others, I want to be surprised. (Although, I'll probably remember while watching it.)

I liked eXistenZ, didn't love it, but liked it and I love Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law, so I'll have no probably rewatching that one.

Re: Let Him Have It -- I know what it's all about, so I'm expecting that. Jude, I've seen and wept copious tears over, I just want to watch it again, but I can't find it and I'm too broke to just buy a copy, even on ebay cheap, just because.

OMG! "Because We Want To" is such trashy fun. LOL! I'm actually listening to all of her stuff, and have been for a few weeks now. There are some songs I really like, but I confess I LOVE, like A-D-O-R-E!! "Honey to the Bee!" and it helps that it's such a Doctor/Rose song. LOL!!!

It's not so much the chick flickness as the predictability that made me roll my eyes. It came so close to being better, but it's entertaining enough as Lifetime movies go. ;-)

Yeah, the wig's not bad as wigs go - heck, it might even be his own hair put up in rollers, it was during the era of the long, floppy hair. But somehow I don't see him having that kind of patience.

Death and the Compass was one of the films on your Netflix list - it's an Alex Cox film from a Borges short story... Extremely surreal film, both metaphorically and in terms of the art movement. The icon is redscharlach's version of, well, Red Scharlach. They're part of a picspam for one particularly hallucinatory but gorgeous sequence. (I got into CE through his avant-garde stuff, so I know all the weird ones!). Tennant in Casanova will remind you very strongly of Tennant in Doctor Who, because Rusty did both and told David to play the Doctor the way he played Casanova. And oh, it shows. :P

Oh, you are KIDDING me!?!?!? Russell T. Davies wrote Casanova too!?!? I knew that he wrote The Second Coming (with Eccleston, and I totally have to add that to my list above, duh!), but he also did something else with The Tennant? Oh, that thrills me to no end. Yay!!!!!

Eccleston has a bit role in an episode of the "Poirot" series where he plays a rather common role - a bitter common laborer, this time with a little naivete. Nothing sparkling, but I love "Poirot" and the series got more than its money worth when they got CE for that bit role.

I hate to say this, but BP's "Mansfield Park" was awful. It fixed some of the Frances O'Connor mistakes, but Fanny Price just isn't that way; Jane Austen is screaming from her grave in horror. The most accurate version I've seen is still the BBC 1980s version, with Sylvestra Le Touzel as Fanny Price and Nicholas Farrell as Edmund, and that's not saying particularly much. "Ruby in the Smoke" is fun.

If you're on the American side of the Atlantic - BP's "Ruby" series are being run and rerun on Masterpiece Mystery. Very soon, too, so check. (Googling Masterpiece Mystery may give you a schedule.)

But for BP, I'd like to add "Much Ado About Nothing" (the "Shakespeare Retold" series). I enjoyed it thoroughly. Beatrice and Benedick are a classic, timeless storyline, but I give extra points for how the script updates the Hero/Claudio storyline for modern audiences; they make it very easy to believe. It's fantastic to see Damian Lewis as Benedick, especially after the dominating and creepy Soames Forsyte, and Sarah Parish proves why she's fantastic and can have chemistry with more than just David Tennant. ;-) BP, though, isn't on screen as much as in her other roles.

Yeah, I've heard Mansfield Park is awful, but it's my least favorite of the Austen books, so I think bad characterization won't bother me as much.

Ha! I'd forgotten that CE was in Let Him Have It. I saw that when it first came out on DVD, must be the first thing I saw him in. Great, but painful.

Let me know if you find Tennant as atrocious in Goblet as I do after you rewatch it.

The Eccleston ones will wait until I get them on Netflix, but I actually have all of the David stuff either on my computer (downloaded) or sitting in my DVD collection (Harry Potter). I'll probably get to watching all of these after I'm done with my rewatch-reviews.
